Can you call yourself a purposeful person?
It seems that determination is my greatest talent, it defines me. Wherever I go, I set a goal and achieve it. This is the spirit of sportsmanship that I have cultivated through playing basketball. Well, I am passionate about beach volleyball. I like that it’s more airy, pointed up.
What motivates you to move towards your goal, and what helps you overcome challenges and obstacles if they arise?
Everything I want shapes my life and my everyday life. I can also do nothing, and there are days like that, but I still choose to invest my energy somewhere. Planning helps you accomplish what you set out to do. If something is planned, I know I have to do it and I don’t think about it anymore. My greatest reward is what I have done, not the rest afterwards.
Obstacles are mostly in the head, there are fewer of them from the outside, so it is very important to believe in yourself. If I feel from my heart that I want something, I go for it. Just doing my best and if it’s meant to happen, it will. Somewhere in Riga, on a wall, it is written: “Life has no meaning, meaning is only to whom we give it.” And it really is. If I didn’t try, I wouldn’t forgive myself. You just don’t want to let yourself down.
When everything is in a rut, I always get support from close people. Sport helps a lot in everyday life. And it also helps me to know that I can always return to the starting point.
What are the character traits or skills you have developed over time to successfully move toward your goals?
Ease and openness. In the past, I felt that it was necessary to go to the set goal without looking to the right or to the left, and sometimes I complicated everything with this attitude. Now I know that there is another way – you don’t have to walk in the rain without an umbrella, you can wait for the storm to pass, because I will get where I need to go anyway. It’s only a matter of time. Everything in life should be perceived more easily, including goals, people, events and, most importantly, yourself.
Sometimes I have imposed that openness on myself, because there is always a choice – to block myself and go into my shell or to go to people with ease, to communicate. The second option is definitely cooler and makes life happier. I have trained it.
Achievements you are proud of?
Achievements can be listed, but in my opinion, the path that leads to them is more important. I am proud of my path, the way I have become, because I have done everything myself. I have been in the right places with the right people who have helped me become who I am today.
What would you never do for a career?
Healthy competition motivates, but it must be respectful. I can’t imagine belittling or humiliating another in order to stand out. Or sneak up on someone to get a job. That would be an immeasurable shame. My trump card is determination and work. And I have achieved everything only with that.
Have there been any significant moments or experiences that have shaped your goals?
Those have been moments when I realize that I can actually do something, and it’s always been a little mystical. For example, instead of giving a pass to a teammate during the game, I decided to go to the basket myself and shoot. Didn’t know I could do that. It was a turning point in basketball when I dared to set myself the goal of joining the national team, because I really wanted to get a national team jersey with my name on it. Of course, behind that jersey was also the fact that I wanted to be in the team, to be a part of all its greatness. I didn’t even think about it until then. That moment when everything clicked, when I realized that I really could, has also happened in the theater. I remember, before I started acting, I saw in a dream that Alvis Hermanis was smiling at me. I took that as a sign that I had to try.
“Our angels are always with us, and often they use someone else’s lips to tell us something,” – this quote by Paulo Coelho is very dear to me, because I often experience how it works in life, that is, a person tells me at the right moment something significant. As sent!
Are you one of those people who climb in through the window if you can’t get through the door?
If I am destined to do something, there will also be a sign telling me to actually climb in through the window. It has to be felt. Not so stubbornly and blindly. Sometimes we do not know how to choose and formulate goals for ourselves. If I want bread, the first thing that comes to my mind is a burger, but maybe I need wholemeal bread, I just don’t know yet. It is the same with works and goals. We are shaped by the path to the goal, and often only by walking it becomes clear what it is that I really need and what I really want.
What advice would you give to women who want to make their dreams come true?
It is very important to understand who you are, because the way I live may not work for anyone else. The sportsmanship that drives me towards a goal shapes my life, but that doesn’t mean I feel like I’m in labor every day. I just know it’s in my nature. I’ve tried to live more aimlessly… maybe I need that too, but it doesn’t work for me.
How do you deal with failure or disappointment, and how have they contributed to your growth?
My biggest failures have been when I distance myself from myself and do not trust my decisions and choices. You should listen to yourself more and stick to your convictions, because only I know and feel what I need. When I trust myself, everything happens. Life is like a cardiogram – up here, down there, and what we call failure is only a moment when we are down, but immediately we will go up again. It’s just a stretch of the road. Accepting it makes life easier.

Future shows and projects you’re looking forward to?
There are many interesting things that await me in the future – some more real, some currently only in my imagination. But I avoid talking about the future for now, you have to live. I’m 25 years old and I feel it’s time for something new. It seems that I have been living in one bubble until now, but now I am moving to another one. I don’t know what it will be like, but I have a feeling that it will be good and different. It feels like I’m taking off the old skin, hanging it in the closet and moving on. The decision to change the theater was responsible, difficult and very thoughtful. We’ll see where it takes me.
I used to think I was special because I was afraid, but everyone is afraid. Those who learn to use fear to their advantage or overcome it win. Now I want to challenge my fears and I don’t even allow the thought that they might be stronger than me. I’m really tired of being afraid. I don’t know where I’ll be in a year, anything can happen, but this is the way for me.
