Yet many people find it difficult to go to the doctor with some complaints. Especially when it comes to irritations below the belt.

For example, because of shame, we do not like to go to the doctor when we suffer from hemorrhoids. General practitioner Janny Dekker: “People quickly find anything that has to do with the anus embarrassing. They are afraid of an investigation, because they literally have to expose themselves.” Many people postpone the treatment of a condition such as hemorrhoids for a long time. “It’s not necessary. Hemorrhoids are more common than patients think. Moreover, they are easy to treat.”

Other complaints with which we prefer to stay at home? Erectile dysfunction, flatulence, vaginal yeast infections, STIs and unwanted urine loss. A shame, especially for yourself, because you can often do something simple about it. And how nice is it to live without these complaints? You just have to think like this: doctors see a lot of crazy and less crazy things in a day. You certainly don’t have to be ashamed of what you have: someone else has probably had it before you.
