Overcoming dengue fever surge, Bogor residents urged to step up extermination of mosquito nests

As many as 1,428 people have accumulated data from January to November 2022, many have recovered, some are still sick. So we urge people to eradicate mosquito nests, especially now that it’s the rainy season

Bogor City (ANTARA) – Health Service (Dinkes) of Bogor City, West Java calls on the public to step up eradication of Aedes Aegypti mosquito (PSN) nests to cope with the increasing number of patients suffering from haemorrhagic fever dengue fever (DHF) which cumulatively reached 1,428 people through November 2022.

“As many as 1,428 people, cumulative data from January to November 2022, many have recovered, some are still sick. So we urge the public to eradicate mosquito nests, especially now that it is the rainy season,” said the city secretary of Bogor Health Service Dr. Erna Nuraena told ANTARA in Bogor City on Friday.

He said that according to the “1 House 1 Juru Pantau Jentik Movement” (Jumantik) abbreviated as G1R1J, the community should invite families to do 3M, i.e. drain, bury and close the mosquito nests in their respective homes.

Additionally, the community is encouraged to coordinate to train Jumantik Environmental, Jumantik Coordinators, and Jumantik Supervisors.

He communicated that DHF is a mosquito-borne viral disease that occurs in tropical and subtropical areas.

Dengue fever is still a health problem and a serious threat in several parts of Indonesia, especially during the rainy season.

Bogor city health bureau noted that out of 1,428 people who had dengue, the numbers fluctuated throughout 2022. As of January there were 129 cases, February 75 cases, March 155 cases and April dropped again to 151 cases.

Then, it continued to decrease in May to 116 cases, rose again in June to 135 cases, in July to 135 cases, decreased in August to 115 cases, in September to 136 cases, in October to 132 cases and in November it increased again to 149 cases.

Of these, 8 patients died, i.e. one person in May, one person in June, one person in July, one person in August, two people in September, one person in October and one person in November.

He said that up to November the highest prevalence of DHF cases was in the Bogor City area in 2022, i.e. Katulampa subdistrict had 92 DHF cases, Cikaret subdistrict had 60 DHF cases and in Mulyaharja subdistrict Baranangsiang district and subdistrict have reported up to 50 cases of DHF.

The average age of people infected with dengue fever in the Bogor City area is between 5 and 14 years old.

“We hope that there is still a lack of public awareness to make efforts to prevent dengue fever transmission in the Bogor City area and that the community immediately realizes this and starts implementing 3M for the benefit of shared health,” he said Erna Nuraena.
