The total value of cash, liquor, and freebies seized since the announcement of India’s model code of conduct on March 29 has reached nearly INR 100 crore (approximately $14 million), with the total number of cases reaching 792, according to the Chief Electoral Officer’s seizure report. In the past 24 hours, around INR 3.23 crore ($467,000) was seized, bringing the total to INR 99.18 crore ($14.3 million). The report found that the value of confiscated liquor (INR 1.67 crore/$241,000) had surpassed cash (INR 88.5 lakh/$128,000). The majority of complaints received by election officials were for the erection of posters and banners without permission, while the remaining focussed on the distribution of money, intimidation, and firearms.
