What is the fastest car in the world? That rental, Jeremy Clarkson was once heard. In this case, however, it will not be far from the truth. This is a special version of the Ford Mustang, which Shelby American adapted for Hertz car rental – and no one else.

It wouldn’t be anything special if it weren’t for the fifth such car in a row and it didn’t have the performance of five regular rental cars.

Just as the Mach 1 and a few others appear only a few times in the history of the Mustang, there is only occasional talk of a car called H. However, this means that the car we are looking at can be a prized collector’s item in a few years. All the more so when there are only twenty-five of them this time.

The compressor under the hood of the Mustang GT500-H has a volume of 3.8 liters. The engine it fills is 5.2 liters. The result is over 900 horses on the rear wheels, writes the editor.

The first, designated the GT350-H, arrived in 1966, shortly after the Mustang first saw the light of day. The program was then called “Rent-a-Racer”, and the GT350-H was a really capable car at the time. Today, those who have survived and fallen into private hands are valued among collectors.

The latest addition is the GT500-H, and of the 25, 19 will be traditionally black and six white – due to the company’s 60th anniversary. In addition to them, an unknown number of GT-H mustangs will be created, which will remain at the 456k five-liter Coyote, but will receive modified body panels and exhaust.

The GT-H version, which is more accessible to the average mortal, also has some modifications, but the performance is about half.

Shelby Mustang GT500-H builds on the Mustang GT500, which means a 5.2-liter eight-cylinder Predator under the hood. However, it does not have “only” 771 horses, but thanks to a larger compressor, just over 900 horses. Of course, more durable half-axles, an exhaust system from Borla, a carbon hood and forged 20 ″ wheels, fitted with tires for high-performance cars.

Of course, these cars will not be for sale, at least for now. Shelby will work with the rental company for three years; whether it will then be possible to buy the well-used GT500-H or not is probably soon to be asked. However, they can be borrowed, of course only in the USA. The daily rental fee is $ 399, ie 9,600 crowns.
