Mataram (ANTARA) – The Mataram City Health Service, West Nusa Tenggara Province, said that as many as 2,575 grade V elementary school (SD) students in this city have received the first dose of human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV).
“Alhamdulillah“The realization of HPV vaccination coverage has reached more than 65 percent of the target of 3,910 female students,” said Head of the Disease Prevention and Control Division (Kabid) of the Mataram City Health Service (Dikes) Chairul Sochib in Mataram, Sunday.
According to him, HPV vaccination aims to help protect girls from infections that cause cervical cancer.
“HPV vaccination services are provided free of charge as one of the government’s efforts to protect the public from the virus,” he said.
To achieve this target, the Mataram City Health Office is currently still providing vaccination services to schools, both elementary and madrasah ibtidaiyah (MI), involving teams from community health centers in each region.
Meanwhile, regarding the number of vaccine doses, according to him, currently it is sufficient so that in implementing the HPV vaccination there are relatively no problems in principle.
“Our stock of HPV vaccine is sufficient according to the target. The shortage of vaccine has been distributed by the province,” he said.
The Main Director of the Mataram City Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Dr. Hj Eka Nurhayati, SpOG previously strongly supported giving the HPV vaccine to elementary school students to help protect children from an early age from infections that cause cervical cancer.
“Giving the HPV vaccine to elementary school girls twice can provide protection from the HPV virus for the next 20 years,” he said.
Eka, who is a gynecologist, said that the HPV vaccine for elementary school children only needs to be given twice. Meanwhile, for adults or people who have had intimate relations, it is recommended 3 times.
“The first dose, then one month later the second dose, and six months later the third dose,” he said.
In this regard, Eka appealed to the public to provide their support for the HPV vaccination program for elementary school children as an effort to prevent the HPV virus early. Moreover, this is provided free of charge.
“If the HPV vaccine is done independently, the cost for one injection is around IDR 1 million, with the type of vaccine for 2-4 viruses. Meanwhile, the newest type of vaccine can reach IDR 3 million per injection,” he said.
