Brasov county invests Over 43 Million Lei in HIV Treatment Amid Rising cases
The lack of sexual education in schools has led too a concerning rise in HIV transmission cases, according to recent findings by specialists. In response, a national program for the supervision, control, and prevention of HIV/AIDS infections has been established. In Brașov County, this initiative is being spearheaded by the Hospital of Infectious Diseases, which is set to procure essential antiretroviral drugs for the next two years.
The hospital plans to purchase 16 types of medications and combinations, with costs potentially reaching 36,785,191.26 lei (excluding VAT) or 43,774,377.59 lei (including VAT), depending on the quantities ordered. “The discontinuation of treatment for HIV patients leads to therapeutic failure with the current treatment scheme, which seriously endangers the lives of patients,” experts emphasize. This underscores the critical need for these drugs to remain in stock at all times.
Medication providers have until March 3 to submit their offers, ensuring a steady supply of these life-saving treatments. The program aims to address the growing demand for HIV care while mitigating the risks associated with treatment interruptions.
