Ahmedabad > It is reported that more than 40,000 women have gone missing in Gujarat in the last five years. The figures of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) have come out. According to this, 41,621 women are missing from Gujarat. This is the figure from 2016 to 2020. The figures for each year are 7015 in 2016, 7712 in 2017, 9246 in 2018, 9268 in 2019 and 8290 in 2020. According to the figures provided by the government in the Legislative Assembly in 2021, 4722 women went missing in Ahmedabad and Vadodara in 2019-20 alone. Apart from this, the NCRB has released the figures. Sudhir Sinha, a former IPS officer and member of the Gujarat State Human Rights Commission, says many of the missing women are being transported to other states for forced sex. Complaints about disappearances are often not taken seriously by the police. Sinha added that such cases should be considered more seriously than those of murderers. Former ADGP Rajan Priyadarshini said that most of the missing girls are being transported by human trafficking gangs and sold there. ‘BJP leaders are blaming Kerala. But nothing is being said about the more than 40,000 women who are missing from Gujarat’ – Gujarat Congress spokesperson Hiren Banker said.
