Over 300 caught in skyscraper fire in Hong Kong – NRK Urix – Foreign news and documentaries

Hundreds of people are trapped on the roof of the burning building. It reports South China Morning Post.

According to the newspaper, a large fire has hit the 38-storey building.

Dozens must be trapped in restaurants in the building.

The fire started at 12.37, local time.

The skyscraper, which is both a shopping center and an office building, must have been full of people.

Due to renovations, all the shops in the mall at the bottom of the building were closed, but it was lunchtime and the restaurants on the 7th to 13th floors were full of people.

In addition, there were people in the offices between the 14th and 38th floors.

Severe fire

Firefighters use a ladder to retrieve people from an open area on the sixth floor.

According to police, around 100 people have been evacuated to an open area on the sixth floor.

At least seven people who have been rescued are being treated for smoke poisoning.

Several have been rescued from the World Trade Center in Hong Kong.

So far, two water cannons have been used against the fire, and smoke divers have been deployed.

The fire is considered severity level 3. Fires in the city are assessed on a scale from 1 to 5, where 5 is the most serious degree.

Electric fire

Police believe the fire started in a cable room at the bottom of the shopping center, before it spread to a scaffolding connected to construction work around parts of the building.

The smoke spread into the mall and up the stairs at the back of the building.

Police have received many phone calls from people trapped inside the building, who report heavy smoke on the stairs.
