There will be 5 more classes for first graders in Burgas schools in the new academic year. The children who will cross the threshold of the classrooms for the first time are 2084. More than 24,000 are the students that the first school bell will gather in the classrooms.
The largest number of first-graders are enrolled in the schools in the Central part of the city.
One of the newly opened classes is at “Lyuben Karavelov” Primary School, there is also a new class at Peyo Yavorov School in the “Lazur” complex.
There are more children in the Sarafovo district as well. There, one class from the fourth grade passes into the fifth, and three classes are accepted in the first grade.
By decision of the Municipal Council, additional funds were allocated to the school in “Sarafovo”, with which two new classrooms were made in the existing building. Two of the new classes will be accepted there.
In Sarafovo, the construction of the new building for the school continues at an intensive pace, which will be completed by the end of the calendar year, after which its furnishing and equipment will begin.
This year, the new building of DG “Nadezhda” opens its doors. It has a capacity for 100 children. A part of them have so far been trained in premises in block 114 in “Meden Rudnik”. Thus, the complex will no longer educate children in residential buildings.
With the new building, sufficient capacity is ensured in the children’s facilities in “Meden Rudnik” for the next few years.
Regarding the educational infrastructure, the Municipality of Burgas continues the renovation of the sanitary facilities in two schools – in the “Sarafovo” district and the village of Marinka.
Many improvements have been made to the sports infrastructure in educational institutions during the summer months. The Vocational High School of Tourism begins the school year with a new gym.
Four Burgas schools will welcome the children with new sports grounds. These are OU “P. R. Slaveykov” in the CGCH, NEG “Goethe”, OU “Anton Strashimirov” and SU “Episkop Konstantin Preslavski”.
In addition to the improvement of the infrastructure, the implementation of a number of municipal programs in Burgas schools, which are fully financed by the Municipality, continues.
The programs are in two directions. One is related to students’ digital competences. The programs in which the children are trained are “Telerik Academy”, “Students teaching students”. The other program is “First Class Start + +”, which is an upgrade of what has been done so far on “First Class Start”.
Robots were purchased for the third and fourth grade students. Children will have the opportunity to program them in the lessons to perform various tasks, which will help them see the practical benefit of digitization.
The other group of programs is focused on functional literacy. They aim to increase students’ knowledge of the Bulgarian language, mathematics, history, geography and other disciplines.
During the summer months, one of the programs in this direction ended. It is called “Read me a fairy tale”, during which more than 400 students read works by children’s authors to children in kindergartens.
Another program to increase literacy in the primary course is also about to be launched. It is called “Summer Refresh” and its purpose is to work together with teachers from the study halls.
It is planned to use an aid in the training, the same for all schools, which will help the children to recall the knowledge and skills of the previous year. This will allow them to more easily absorb the new material during the lessons.
The other program is “My hometown Burgas”. Classes in local knowledge are conducted in all Burgas schools, and their goal is to get to know the sights, natural features and the past of Burgas.
The Municipality of Burgas also works on programs related to children’s health and physical activity. On September 15, the preventive program “Healthy teeth in the first grade” will begin.
Each student with the first grade learning kit will receive a voucher for a free dental check-up near the school. Parents can submit a request and specify a day and time for the examination. The municipal program for the prevention of spinal distortions continues.
A new program related to metabolic syndrome will also be launched this year, which will detect early signs of diabetes and obesity.
Special scales will be provided for all schools, which, in addition to weight and height, will also measure body mass. This, in turn, will allow research to be done on the parameters that can lead to the mentioned diseases.
In addition to the traditional school sports calendar, which is implemented every year, the “Sports for every Burgas child” program was launched permanently.
It will give all students in the third grade the opportunity to play sports under the guidance of leading instructors who will help them choose the appropriate activity for their free time.
Along with the educational activity and the renovation of the infrastructure, the Municipality of Burgas undertook before the school year the necessary activities for the renovation of horizontal markings, repair of vertical signaling, safety systems, lighting and trimming of vegetation in the school area.
The aim of these measures is to increase traffic safety in the areas where children pass on their way to school.
