The IMSS Hidalgo managed to procure the kidneys of a 48-year-old man who died due to a cerebrovascular hemorrhage, so the family decided to donate both organs with the intention of helping those who need it.

The surgery was headed by Gerardo Alejandro Navarro Toledo, head of the Transplant Service of the 20 de Noviembre National Medical Center of the ISSSTE.

“Mexico occupies one of the last places in terms of donation, which is why we invite everyone to do so, because we do not know when we are going to require an organ, we can all be patients or have a family member with kidney or heart failure, for example. “It is important that we all express our willingness to donate,” said the specialist.

With a kidney transplant, two people can abandon dialysis treatment and considerably improve their quality of life, which is why these types of acts are of vital importance for the recipients.

It was also possible to obtain skin, which will be processed at the Tissue Bank of the State of Mexico to benefit more than 100 people who are in need of a graft.

The organ procurement and transplant procedures are carried out under rigorous health protocols, in addition to treating donors with respect, so that the body can be veiled in the way that family members consider appropriate.

In Mexico, more than 22 thousand people are waiting for a transplant, reported the IMSS Hidalgo. He added that to be a voluntary organ and tissue donor you can consult the National Transplant Center page: https://www.gob.mx/cenatra/ or visit the IMSS page http://www.imss.gob.mx/salud-en-linea/donacion-organos.
