Within the framework of a discussion about the changes expected by the industry in the Rose Oil Act and the adoption of the Strategy for the sector, Minister Takhov committed the MFA team to assist in moving the legislative amendments to the Committee on Agriculture, Food and Forestry in the National Assembly.

In response to questions from producers about agricultural lands affected by fires and other disasters in the summer, Minister Takhov informed that the applications for support of all producers who submitted applications with failed areas have been processed. He recalled that the Ministry of Health created an organization for the rapid acceptance of applications and the compilation of investigative reports. “This enables the timely payment of state aid to compensate for damage to agricultural crops,” said the Minister of Agriculture and Food.

At the meeting, the Plant Breeding Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture presented data on the picking campaign. In general, the purchase price of the pink flower varied between BGN 3.7-4.20/kg, and the picking price was in the range of BGN 1.5-1.8 per kilogram of picked pink flower.

There are 73 rose processors in Bulgaria by 2024, mainly in the city of Sofia, Stara Zagora and Plovdiv. The distilleries are 53 in number, with an annual capacity to process more than 15,000 tons of rosé. Oil-bearing rose in Bulgaria is grown in 17 administrative regions by 2,989 rose growers, with production concentrated mainly in three administrative regions – Plovdiv, Stara Zagora and Pazardzhik.

Since the beginning of 2024, Bulgaria has exported 936.5 kg of rose oil to over 30 countries. Exports are mainly to the US, China, Australia, Japan, India and the UK, with export prices ranging from US$9,500 – US$16,050 per kg, depending on whether the butter is conventionally or organically produced.

The rose oil advisory board was held at the request of the industry and was attended by industry organizations of producers and processors, representatives of control bodies and the scientific community.
