Over 100 new trees will be planted in Sozopol – 2024-03-05 19:35:59

The mayor of the municipality of Sozopol Tihomir Yanakiev and deputy. the director of “Municipal Forestry and Landscaping”, Eng. Miroslav Kirov, inspected the green areas in the municipal center.

On the ground where the new bus station will be built, old trees and bushes have been cut down. The archeological excavations requested by the National Institute of Natural Resources and Environment before construction will begin there.

Sanitary felling is currently being carried out throughout the city. Branches are trimmed both in the park and on the streets of Sozopol. This is done for the safety of people, as there is a risk of breakage in stronger winds.

High branches are cut with a pruning saw. All non-massive material will be turned into mulch for the other plants.

“There are many trees that are in poor phytosanitary condition. They are dangerous and must be removed,” said Engineer Kirov. He showed the hollows of trees that fill with water when it rains, which then destroys the tree from the inside by expanding or contracting, depending on the temperatures.

The protrusions on the trunks of the trees are cancerous formations, the gardener specified.

The mayor and the person in charge of landscaping and trees in Sozopol also inspected the tree, which attracted the attention of citizens, as there are closely placed tiles around it. It turned out that the tree had been dead for about 15 years.

“The tree was concreted many years ago. We have left it there because the old women tie ropes to the neighboring tree in the summer and sell crocheted plaids and fig jam. We didn’t remove it for them, it already has sentimental value. But now we will have to take it out in order to plant new trees,” said Mayor Tihomir Yanakiev.

About 100 new trees and many ornamental shrubs will be planted in the spring in Sozopol.

They far outnumber those that will be removed because they are rotten and dangerous. The mayor and Engineer Kirov also discussed the restoration of a small park in the northernmost part of the city, which the old fellow citizens remember as “The Grove” and which was a favorite place for children to play.

Now trees, bushes and flowers will be planted there again and it will become a romantic stop for tourists with a view of the islands of St. Ivan and St. Peter.

Tihomir Yanakiev and Miroslav Kirov also inspected the cemetery park. It was basically cleaned and now the citizens of Sozopol will be able to visit their deceased loved ones much more comfortably.
