Ovechkin overtook Jagr and is the best European shooter in the history of the NHL

Hockey striker Alexander Ovechkin scored the 767th goal in the NHL in Washington’s 4: 3 victory after the raids on the New York Islanders and became the best European scorer in the competition. The 36-year-old Russian broke away from Jaromír Jágr in the third place in the historical ranking, and there are only two players in front of him – Gordie Howe (801) and Wayne Gretzky (894).

Ovechkin’s moment came in the 56th minute, when immediately after winning the throw-in he overcame Semjon Varlamov with a wrist from the right circle. The Russian player scored the 37th goal with a 3: 2 goal in the season, which he started in as the sixth best gunner in history. He has gradually skipped Marcel Dionne, Brett Hull and Jaromír Jágr in recent months.

Vítek Vaněček contributed 29 interventions to Washington’s victory and, in addition, covered seven of the eight raids in the shootout. The match was decided by Anthony Mantha. Another Czech goalkeeper Karel Vejmelka stopped 36 shots during Arizona’s 6: 3 victory in Montreal.

“Alex, congratulations! You are now the best NHL scorer among European players. But keep scoring goals, keep going. As you know, I have not finished my career yet and there is still a chance that I will return and start chasing you,” Jaromír Jágr said.

Filip Zadina scored in the NHL after seven goals without a goal and started a wild third period with a goal in a power play, in which Detroit equalized in Edmonton from 2: 4 to 4: 4 and 5: 5. The end, however, belonged to the home team, to whom Warren Foegele and Evander Kane won 7: 5.

Ondřej Kaše scored in the second game in a row and helped Toronto to win 4-0 over Dallas. The Czech forward scored the team’s third goal at the beginning of the last period with a shot from the right circle in a power play. Erik Kallgren caught his first zero in the NHL, who took precedence over Petr Mrázek and shone with 35 interventions.

Tomas Hertl prepared both San Jose goals in a 2: 3 overtime loss to Florida. David Pastrňák scored an assist at the winning goal of Boston, who won in Chicago 2: 1 in overtime. Filip Chytil passed the first goal of the New York Rangers, who defeated Anaheim 4: 3 in overtime at home.

Pavel Zacha was injured in the third minute when he was finished and hit the guardrail. The Czech striker resigned from the match and without him New Jersey lost in Vancouver 3: 6.
