Ovechkin is now the second leading scorer in NHL history

Last night of action in the National Hockey League before the holiday break, there were 11 games on the schedule.

Here’s what caught the eye.

1. Alex Ovechkin becomes the second leading scorer in NHL history

Well there you have it, the “big eight” made another page of NHL history last night by scoring his 801st and 802nd career goals, tying and passing Gordie Howe for the NHL’s second all-time mark .

So only Wayne Gretzky remains ahead of Ovechkin in this ranking.

Gretzky has 894. So Ovi is 93 short of the greatest player of all time.

Here are the two goals scored by the Russian Capitals forward in the Washington Capitals’ 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets.

After the game, Jets players took the time to shake Ovechkin’s hand to congratulate him.

The Caps players were obviously all smiles after the game.

Here is the video made by the Capitals.

2. Connor McDavid is the first player to score 30 goals this season

Since we were talking about one of the greatest players of all time, why not talk about another one who will most likely go down in the NHL history books: Connor McDavid.

Last night, the #97 Oilers scored his 30th goal of the season in just his 35th game.

He is the first player in the league to reach this milestone this season.

While in the NHL, McDavid has always scored many goals, but has never been called the top scorer in the NHL.

Well, this season that could very well be the case with him on a pace of 70 goals in 82 games.

Let’s see if it will be able to continue this momentum.

As for the game itself, the Oilers lost again, this time 5-2 to the Vancouver Canucks.

The Oilers are currently out of the playoffs, one point behind the Calgary Flames.

In the win, Bo Horvat scored his 400th career point.

3. Jesperi Kotkaniemi inscrit son 5e but de la saison

The former Montreal Canadiens player is still not having a great season. Every year, this is supposed to be the season where he comes out of his shell, but he doesn’t.

The fact remains that in a difficult season like this one for Kotkaniemi, he has to regain confidence in the few positive elements.

The positive element right now is that KK has one point in their last three games.

He scored his fifth goal of the season last night, bringing his point total this season to 10 for 34.

Let’s see if Kotkaniemi will be able to build on that.

4. First NHL goal for Aatu Räty

Do you remember this famous Aatu Räty?

Yes, yes, the young Finn who was seen as the potential first overall pick in the 2021 draft.

Räty eventually had a rather disappointing season in the Finnish Premier League, which saw him go down the draft 52nd in the second round, where the New York Islanders drafted him.

Well, last night Räty was playing his first game in the National Hockey League, and he took the opportunity to score his first NHL goal.

Let’s see what Räty will be able to achieve from now on. It will be interesting to see if he proves to all the other teams that they made a mistake by not drafting him in this way.

I remember very well that I really wanted to see the Montreal Canadiens select him at the end of the first round.

The CH had finally drafted Logan Mailloux 31st overall.

5. The Bruins have the upper hand on the Devils

Last night we were entitled to a game between two very good Eastern Conference teams, while the Bruins were in New Jersey to face the Devils.

Well, two good teams mean a great show, and that’s exactly what happened.

It was an action-packed game in which Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark was very solid stopping 37 of the 40 shots he faced.

The Bruins won 4-3 after taking a 4-1 lead in the game.

Hot then, but in the end they pocketed the two points in regulation time.

Here are some goals from that match.
