Ovechkin has already surpassed Gordie Howe, 92 goals behind Gretzky

Thanks to two goals in a 4-1 win against Winnipeg on Friday, Russian scorer Alexander Ovechkin of Washington moved into second place on the all-time NHL scoring list with 802 goals, ahead of Gordie Howe. The 37-year-old Capitals captain has only Wayne Gretzky’s record ahead of him, to whom he concedes 92 goals.

Ovechkin scored 802 goals in 1310 matches. Howe scored 801 goals in 1767 duels between 1946 and 1971 for Detroit and then in the 1979/80 season for Hartford.

The record holder with 894 hits is Wayne Gretzky, who between 1978 and 1999 for Edmonton, Los Angeles, St. Louis and the New York Rangers, racked up an unattainable 2,857 points in 1,487 games.
