Russian “Washington Capitals” forward Alexander Ovechkin broke Canadian Ray Burke’s record for the number of shots on goal in the history of the National Hockey League

The hockey players “Washington Capitals” won in overtime in the away match of the regular season of the National Hockey League (NHL) with the “Ottawa Senators” with a score of 3:2.
The winners were scored by Evgeny Kuznetsov (8th minute), Sonny Milano (26) and Markus Johansson (63). For the underdogs, the goals were scored by Alex Debrinkat (5) and Drake Baterson (44).
In this match, the captain of “Washington” Alexander Ovechkin had six shots on the opponent’s goal. Now the Russian has 6211 career shots. He surpassed 19-time NHL All-Star Ray Burke, who had 6,209 career shots.
In the game against Ottawa, Ovechkin provided two assists, the hockey player from Washington shares the 69th place in the history of the league in the number of assists with the 2006 Olympic champion of Sweden Daniel Sedin (both have 648 assists).
Ovechkin was recognized as the first protagonist of the meeting against the senators. This season, the Russian has scored 38 points in 35 games (20 goals plus 18 assists).
The Capitals are fifth in the Capital Division standings with 40 points in 35 games.
Washington will play its next game on December 24 against the Winnipeg Jets.
