New Delhi: The Supreme Court said owners have the power to ban the use of outside food and drink inside movie theaters. But the Supreme Court also ruled that clean drinking water should be provided free of charge. The Supreme Court also ruled that food and drink brought to the elderly and children should not be restricted.
The Jammu and Kashmir High Court had ordered that food and drinks be brought to the cinemas and multiplexes and not stopped. In the petition filed against this, Chief Justice DY Supreme Court Panel chaired by Chandrachud clarified that movie theater owners have the power to introduce the regulation.

Spectators have the right not to buy food offered for sale in cinemas and multiplexes. The Supreme Court also emphasized that the High Court’s decision to allow external food to be brought into theaters was outside the scope of its jurisdiction.
