A powerful cyclone will hit our northern neighbor. Romania is ready to face the consequences of dangerous weather, but the country’s environment minister warned: “Sunday will be the hardest day and everyone is on alert.”
Meteorologists in the country have announced yellow and orange codes for heavy rains as well as strong storms for the next few days. The capital Bucharest will also be affected.
In the coming hours, temperatures will drop from 34 degrees to 15 degrees in the inner Carpathian regions. Precipitation amounts above 60 liters per square meter are expected.
“Sunday, September 29, will be the worst day in terms of flooding,” Environment, Water and Forestry Minister Mircea Fecet warned Agerpres on Friday.
“However, the predicted outflows for the Danube River should not put us in danger,” predicted Fechet, who specified that there are likely to be more severe situations in the inland streams of the hydrographic basins under warnings.
Still, the flow of the Danube River at the entrance to the country will reach a maximum flow of 7,600 cubic meters per second over the next five days, double the multi-year average for September and October, according to a forecast released Thursday by the National Institute of hydrology and water management (INHGA), valid for the interval September 26 – October 3, reports Digi24.
