The Citizen Council of the National Migration Institute (INM) expressed its “deep indignation” at the events in which six migrants died and ten more were injured by shots fired by elements of the Mexican Army in Chiapas. In this regard, he indicated that “we echo the demands of civil society, to implement norms in accordance with human rights obligations, in addition to ensuring the rights and reparation of the victims of this case.”
In accordance with the powers of this body, he stressed, they call on this Institute to urgently convene the authorities in matters of public security, with the intention of “establishing forceful agreements that guarantee the human rights of people in the context of mobility and establish commitments to eliminate any practice that involves excesses in the use of force, arbitrary detentions and the criminalization of migrants.”
Said council is a body of citizen participation that has the power to give opinions on the execution of migration policy, as well as formulate proposals for specific actions for the promotion, protection and defense of the human rights of migrants, among other tasks.
