Strike and marches in the West Bank calling for revenge for the assassination of Al-Arouri
Several areas in the West Bank witnessed large demonstrations denouncing the assassination of the deputy head of the Hamas political bureau, Saleh Al-Arouri, in Beirut, amid a comprehensive strike announced by all Palestinian factions on Wednesday. In these demonstrations, calls demanding revenge against Israel for this assassination rose.
These activities began with a march in downtown Ramallah, and another in the town of Aroura, northwest of the city, the birthplace of Arouri, in addition to a march in the Arroub camp north of Hebron, as well as in Nablus, and in many villages. Participants in the demonstration in Ramallah chanted slogans expressing their anger at Al-Arouri’s assassination, including: “Oh eye, cry, oh eye, oh Arouri, it has become a religion,” and “Revenge, revenge, oh Al-Qassam Brigades.”
Military, political and civil circles mourned the leader of the Hamas movement. In a statement, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, affiliated with the Fatah movement, mourned “with all pride and honor the martyr, the national leader, Saleh Al-Arouri.” The statement added that the assassination of Al-Arouri “will only increase our determination to resist and liberate.”
The national and Islamic forces in Ramallah and Al-Bireh said, “The blood of Al-Arouri and his companions will fan the flames of the national struggle until freedom and independence.” In a press statement, she held “the occupation fully responsible for the assassination.”
The “Commission for the Affairs of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners,” the “Palestinian Prisoner Club,” the “Supreme Authority for Follow-up on the Affairs of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners,” and the “National Prisoner Movement” in the occupation prisons also mourned “the freedom fighter, national leader, and freed and deported prisoner, Sheikh Saleh Al-Arouri.” These institutions said, in a joint statement, that Al-Arouri “sacrificed his life for the freedom of his land and people until the last moment of his life.” The statement indicated that Al-Arouri “spent a total of about 18 years in Israeli occupation prisons.”
On the other hand, on Wednesday, Israeli army forces continued their massive attack on the Nour Shams camp in the city of Tulkarm. Local sources said, “The occupation bombed a site in the Nour Shams camp with a missile directed from a drone. The occupation vehicles were stationed in the Al-Alimi roundabout area, known as the Courts, west of the city. They intercepted a private vehicle, and the occupation soldiers forced its passengers to get out of it.” The sources added that the occupation forces continued their widespread arrest campaign against the citizens of Nour Shams camp, and the campaign included all the homes of citizens in the camp, and pursued the wounded in hospitals.
A number of camp residents who were detained for hours stated that the occupation forces subjected them to investigation and interrogation and prevented them from returning to their homes in the camp, otherwise they would expose themselves to arrest again under the pretext that the “military operation” was still continuing.
In Jerusalem, on Wednesday, settlers stormed the courtyards of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, under the protection of the Israeli police. Eyewitnesses reported that dozens of colonists stormed Al-Aqsa, from the direction of the Mughariba Gate, carried out provocative tours of its courtyards, and performed Talmudic rituals. At the same time, police forces stationed at the gates of the Old City and Al-Aqsa Mosque prevented Muslim citizens from entering it.
In the town of Qasra, near Nablus, on Wednesday, settlers placed mobile homes (caravans) on its lands. Fouad Hassan, an activist in the Settlement Resistance Committee, said, “Colonists placed 4 new caravans on citizens’ lands in the town, specifically on the opposite side of the Magdlim settlement, on lands they had bulldozed earlier, bringing the number of caravans that were placed within a week to nine.” .
Israeli reports revealed that the Palestinian prisoners are residents of Gaza; Especially those who were arrested on October 7, are being subjected to severe abuse and torture.
Haaretz newspaper said that the accumulated testimonies about the harsh treatment of Gazan detainees held behind the walls of the Sde Teman military prison, as well as security prisoners and those detained for security violations in the Gilboa and Megiddo prisons, require immediate attention. The newspaper explained that the first stop for Gazan detainees is “Sde Teman.” They are subject to beatings, being tied to a fence, and being arrested with their hands tied above their heads, and the jailers assault, humiliate, and abuse them.
The newspaper quoted a prisoner who was recently released, saying, “The jailers entered carrying the Israeli flag and forced the prisoners to kiss it, and whoever did not kiss it was beaten.” He added that the jailers asked the prisoners to crawl.
A similar certificate arrived at the “Mukid” Foundation for the Protection of the Individual, and was recently submitted to the government’s legal advisor, Ghali Behreb Mayara. The prisoner said in his testimony that the guards entered the cell, beat those in it, and forced them to curse themselves and crawl, while the Israeli flag was on their backs.
The newspaper said: “Since the beginning of the war, five Palestinian security prisoners have died in prison service facilities, and an investigation was opened into two of them, with bruises on their bodies. In addition, two Gazan workers died in unclear circumstances. One of them is in the Antot military prison, and the other is in the Ofer military prison.
The newspaper warned against continuing this treatment of prisoners, considering that “the State of Israel is not a terrorist organization. Despite the events of October 7 and the brutality practiced by Hamas men against kidnapped Israelis, there is no justification for leniency in the treatment of Palestinians who are at the state’s disposal.” The legal advisor demanded The government requested that Mayara escape with urgent intervention.
