Shortly after the festivities were over and the awards were handed out, the website Natt & Dag published a photo carousel on Instagram.
“Here are the winners and losers from the red carpet! Fresh fashion reviews from Natt & Dag,” they wrote.
Raises eyebrows
In the carousel are ten different photos of influencers and celebrities who have received comments on their outfits.
“Classic and straightforward. The only thing we might have done differently is drop a piano on her, to make it more interesting,” they wrote about Leah Isadora Behn (18).
“The chicks are so far apart that they only communicate via Skype,” they wrote about Anny Isabella Øvrehus (24).
“First Price James Bond! With a bow bigger than his own future”, is the verdict on Oskar Westerlin’s (25) outfit.
– Disassociates
Criticism has been hurled at the website, and several of those who were present at Vixen have reacted.
“Just embarrassed,” wrote Behn under the post.

“Really?”, wrote Frida Marie Grande (32), who won the prize for this year’s influencers.
Now Natt & Dag claim that it was all a stunt that they came up with while sitting in a bar. They claim they decided to plagiarize the late Joan Rivers and used her most controversial rants on Vixen.
However, only two out of ten comments actually originated from Rivers.
Dagbladet has had a chat with the man behind the “Fashion Police”. Jan Thomas (57) is one of the few in the country who on a weekly basis rolls the dice and comments on celebrities’ outfits. His expertise is a long-standing career as a stylist.
He reacts strongly to Natt & Dag’s stunt.

– I have become aware of this case, I personally distance myself from it, he says to Dagbladet and continues:
– What we have to remember is that Vixen consists of a lot of young girls who have just started. Watch out for that distribution of power, because it’s so skewed. You have no idea where the young girls stand right now, and they are often very easily influenced. It is something that must be taken into account.
Took action
Jan Thomas says that he is aware of his role when he rolls the dice. He explains that when the “Fashion Police” started, the desire was for him to be sharper and bolder than he is.
Secret settlement behind the camera
– Nevertheless, I took some measures quite quickly, because that form was not me. I was not that character. For me, it was very important that if I criticize, it should be constructive. It can be fun, but always followed up with something positive.
Jan Thomas feels that he has a responsibility as someone who comments and works with people of all ages. He believes that Natt & Dag’s approach borders on body shaming (talking disparagingly about other people’s bodies, editor’s note), which he does not want to take part in.

– When you don’t have the skills or the vocabulary to offer constructive criticism, you might go in with what you think is humor.
– What do you say to those who say humor and snarky humor must be allowed?
– I like jokes that are on the edge. Believe me, I think we have to lower our shoulders a little, we can hardly say anything anymore. But these examples are not funny. Is that where we are? Is this where we have sunk? he asks.

– Both you and I, we have the power of the word. We must respect that. I don’t think anyone in Natt & Dag thought they were going to spread hate, I don’t think it was that well thought out. But they should think twice another time, because these are young and vulnerable people. Those quotes are hair-raising and they should stay too good for that. I am ashamed for them.
– Badly done
Jan Thomas acknowledges that he has also made comments that have been difficult for those concerned to cope with.
– I will not throw stones in glass houses. I’ve said a lot that people have taken very seriously, which I’ve had to deal with. How big Norwegian celebrities have said that they can’t handle it, and that it felt very serious when it came from me, he says, and explains that this is feedback he has taken on board.

– This is my job, and if I think something can be done better, I say so – but I always want to give a compliment. And I always think: “Jan, these people really tried”.
He encourages those who have received comments from Natt & Dag to take this with a grain of salt. He believes that these cannot possibly be people who know what they are talking about, and believes they have misunderstood what their position is about.
– I think this is poorly done. When you don’t have the expertise behind you, it’s just a matter of throwing shit. To me, this is completely silly.
People can interpret as they want
Geir Magne Staurland, responsible editor in Natt & Dag, has been submitted to the criticism. He refers to what he has stated to other media.
Shouts damage
Staurland has, among other things, stated to TV 2 that Natt & Dag chose to plagiarize freely, and with full intent.
– We sat in a bar and thought: “What happens if we bring the sassy legend Joan Rivers to life, and test some of her most controversial statements on the many Yule ball dresses and sponsored outfits at the Vixen Awards?”. The answer was as expected: A scandal! But, it is not so strange that people react to this in 2024, it is taken straight from the past, he said and continued:

– For the sake of order, not all the fashion reviews from the Vixen Awards are quotes from Joan Rivers. When we ran out of suitable Joan Rivers quotes, we turned to ChatGPT. If you are unsure about what is plagiarism or not, run it through the plagiarism machine that caught Sandra Borch!
Staurland also said that they do not pretend that this was particularly tasteful, and emphasizes that it was a stunt – and that people can interpret it as they want.
