Outrage and Demand for Justice: Young Woman Suffers Brutal Attack With Mock Knife

A wave of questions and outrage after we told about a young woman who was cut with a mock knife. At the end of June, the 18-year-old girl was admitted to a hospital, where she received 400 stitches. Now, at the second court instance, the accused of the attack was released from custody because what happened was a minor bodily injury.

It was this decision that became the cause of indignation and hundreds of posts on social networks. A protest is also being prepared. And in the last hours, there was a reaction from both the prosecutor’s office and the minister of justice.

The inhumane treatment shown to a young girl blew up social media and prompted a reaction at the highest state level. The main reason for this is not only the act itself, but the decision to release the detainee from custody. Hours after the case became widely known, Justice Minister Atanas Slavov called on the investigative authorities to conduct a full, objective and thorough investigation of the circumstances, using the entire toolkit of the law. And in the District Prosecutor’s Office in Stara Zagora, a team of monitoring prosecutors has been created. It is clear from the official announcement that additional witnesses will be interviewed and a complex forensic examination will be prepared by doctors from various fields of medicine. Meanwhile, information also appeared that the woman who told about the case was threatened.

400 STITCHES: A man disfigured his girlfriend with a dummy knife and shaved her head

The case with the 18-year-old girl is from the end of June. It became publicly known yesterday after relatives of the abused woman decided to tell.

“On June 26, my husband called and told me that our daughter had been severely beaten and cut with a mock knife. The cuts are brutal. 400 stitches. Heavy condition. Her head is shaved. There are multiple wounds on the scalp from the pressure of the clipper. Her emotional state has collapsed,” said the girl’s mother.

This story caused a storm of reactions. Not only photos of the detainees, but also of the judge who decided to let him go free, were distributed on social networks. The reasons of the court are also published.

“The described injuries of the victim, individually and in total, caused her a temporary health disorder, not life-threatening – minor bodily injury.”

“The criminal act committed by the applicant is prosecuted according to the order of the private prosecution. This circumstance, according to the law, does not allow any measure of procedural coercion to be taken against him, including “Detention in custody”, which is why the accused is released”.

According to lawyers interviewed by a NOVA team, the case was underestimated.

“The problem and the omission here, which I believe the prosecution made, is that for these types of injuries, there should have been a plastic surgeon in addition to a medical examiner, and he would have invariably found that these injuries were permanent disfigurement. Then we would have faced medium bodily injury”, explained lawyer Ludmil Rangelov.

After a team of monitoring prosecutors was created, the conclusions of the new examinations are now awaited.

“Probably, they will find that what has been caused is of the category of medium bodily harm, and there is already an opportunity for the person to be remanded in custody.” And because it is extremely brutal, with great cruelty, the court will now assess whether such a person can be corrected with one sentence, or whether he will have to be effectively sentenced”, said lawyer Rangelov.

Our efforts to locate the accused have remained fruitless today. And the woman who first told about what happened spent almost the whole day in the police because of received threats.
