The presence of the night nurse is mandatory only in structures that have second level care places or in the case of positive guests.i: these situations that are now not present in the Limanese service center. The staff, therefore, in the retirement home would need to be reinforced. “I think it is essential to urgently deal with this problem that is becoming no longer manageable and that makes us reflect on the future of our services”, says the deputy mayor, who explains that he has already asked to analyze the issue both within the Provincial Conference of Mayors last November and during the session of the table of the Zone Plan, which involves the directors and presidents of the service centers for the elderly. “There is no doubt that at this point we need strong political action in the health sector”, continues Fontana, “For which we asked for a meeting with the competent regional councilor, in order to describe the serious critical situation that our structures are going through, also in light of the fact that, for some time now, they have been transformed from structures of social to health structures “.

And for the deputy mayor, the crux of the matter lies right here. “If the residences for the elderly have become long-term wards, therefore also delegated to the treatment of health-related pathologies, their management must be reviewed at the regional level and consequently all those economic and personnel resources necessary to deal with these aspects that are becoming more and more prevalent in these structures must be transferred ”.

Fontana states that for the coverage of vacant positions for an indefinite period, the Local Health Authority proceeded, albeit legitimately, to initiate themassive recruitment of all 103 candidates in the ranking, but “without prior notice to the socio-health structures of the area, which are the main source of origin of the professionals in question”. Procedures that had already put the elderly service centers in difficulty. «Furthermore», continues Fontana, «the real impossibility of finding replacements already trained in the territory, or in any case willing to move from other regions, is well known. The situation is dramatic. And we are seeing the effects of a wrong training program in which the needs of the territories were not taken into account. Limana included ».

The desperate cry

“Many rest homes will already be found starting from February in the condition of not being able to provide health care to all its assistantsthe. In the Limana facility we are thinking of removing the night nursing service in order to comply, during the day, with the minimum standards required by regional law 22/2002. And all this will also have repercussions on the hospital health system ”, the municipal administrator emphasizes.
