NEW YORK – Former United States Representative Max Rose, a Democrat who represented one of the few conservative places in New York City, left the hotly contested mayoral race after filing campaign papers in early December.
Rose, 34, presented documentation to the city’s Campaign Finance Board that allowed her to begin raising funds for the campaign despite insisting to our sister network News 4, just a few months ago, that it would never happen. Before the November election, the Staten Island congressman denied rumors that he would run for mayor.
“Do you think a short, bald Jew from Brooklyn will be elected mayor? I’m running for re-election and that’s the job I want,” Rose told NBC New York in September. Even if he lost his seat, Rose said, he was not going to run for mayor.
Almost three weeks later, Rose took to Twitter to reverse course once again, saying she would not campaign for the position next year.
“Representing the 11th Congressional District of New York has been an incredible honor and privilege. While I will not be running for mayor this cycle, I am going nowhere in the fight to make our city and our country deliver on their promise. “he said in a statement read.
The former congressman’s announcement comes on the same day that Congress met for the start of a new session, swearing in the new class of legislators.
