Developer Appeal Studios has just shared a new look for the upcoming Outcast: A New Beginning as part of THQ Nordic Showcase. The game, which will take players to a sci-fi world called Adelpha, will come to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series consoles at an unspecified future date, but we were told more about the game as part of a press conference.
Seeing players take on the role of Cutter Slade, the game will ask you to fight back against an invading faction looking to take control of Earth. To that end, you’ll have access to a fleet of modular weapons that promise more than 30 upgradeable options, as well as an upgradeable jetpack that will let you glide and fly around the world.
We’re told that the story will begin almost immediately, with players just getting through a brief introduction and then exploring the open world as they see fit. The world also claims to shed a bunch of typical open-world tropes, like towers and outposts, and instead requires you to think strategically about how to overcome threats and slow and stop invading forces.
The game is inspired by the science fiction novels of the 80s and 90s, with a light-hearted and humorous tone. It’s also being developed by the same developers who created the 1999 original, and has been described as a true continuation of the series. It’s simply called A New Beginning to get rid of the stigma that you need to have played the original Outcast to understand this, which is why the game dropped the Outcast 2 name.
While we’re waiting to see when the game will launch, we’re told the game will span 35+ hours for people who want to really explore everything that has to offer, and that the development team is getting closer to the game’s beta phase.
