The International Meteor Organization (IMO) said that the cause of the outbreak over Kiev was the flight of a fireball weighing about 300 kg.
The researchers studied the recordings from video cameras in Ukraine, Hungary and Slovakia, which recorded the flight of a space object. They managed to determine 132 km of the flight path with an error of several hundred meters.
According to scientists, the fireball was first noticed at an altitude of 98 km above Velika Dymerka, Kiev region, and over Kiev it passed 80 km and continued to move southwest at a speed of 29 km/s.
The IMO reported that the meteoroid had an initial weight of 200-300 kg, and at an altitude of 38 km it broke up into many small fragments less than 1 kg. After that, there were several more flashes: the last time the fireball was noticed at an altitude of 28 km, when its speed was about 10 km / s. Due to the high initial speed, only small meteorites could fall to the ground.
According to scientists, they can be found somewhere between the cities of Popelnya, Romanovka, Strokov and Pavoloch in the Zhytomyr region.
Recall that residents of Kyiv and the region on Wednesday evening, April 19, observed a bright flash in the sky. Later it became known that a bright flash in the sky was noticed not only in Kyiv, but also in some Belarusian cities.
