Teramo. A cluster of infections from Covid has spread in the medical and cardiology departments of Mazzini: there are 30 positives among patients. This is confirmed by the ASL of Teramo, which in a summit that took place today ordered the increase of security measures by further increasing the level of supervision and control also on access to the hospital and an urgent meeting of the crisis unit. The alarm went off Saturday after in-depth investigations on a patient on the way to discharge who showed abnormal symptoms with respect to the clinical picture and subjected to a positive swab, an outbreak of coronavirus emerged in the medical department.
Subsequent swabs to all the patients in the ward as well as to the staff, including food distribution and cleaning staff, revealed the positivity of 14 patients while all the staff tested negative. The relative safety protocol was thus triggered and all the departments with which the patients came into contact were notified, both for transfer and for consultations: two medical patients transferred to cardiology tested positive.
All infected patients have been transferred to Covid wards and the other negative patients are swabbed every day to continuously monitor their conditions. In the meantime, all the patients discharged in the last week have been called and will be tracked by the UCAT. In the afternoon of today the results of the swabs performed in the morning gave new results: another 8 patients in medicine and 6 in cardiology. These patients were also transferred to the Covid wards.
