Jakarta –
The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the conversation with Tesla the matter of investment in Indonesia is still ongoing. However, Luhut admitted that he could not explain the contents of the conversation.
The reason is still bound by a confidentiality agreement with Tesla.
“We are still NDA (non-disclosure agreement) but I can say we have made very good progress,” Luhut said at his office, Monday (20/3/2023).
When asked whether Tesla would build a factory in Indonesia, Luhut again said that he was bound by the confidentiality agreement.
“Yes, I have already answered that, I am still bound by the NDA,” Luhut explained.
Apart from Tesla, currently the government also expects the Chinese electric car manufacturer, BYD, to enter Indonesia. BYD is one of the biggest electric car players in the world today.
“One more thing, we are targeting BYD, we hope it can enter,” Luhut said again.
For information, the government is currently pushing policies related to incentives or subsidies for electric vehicles. The policy regarding buses and electric cars will be announced on April 1, 2023.
This is done by the government so that electric vehicle manufacturing companies are willing to invest and build factories in Indonesia.
