/ world today news/ The five Bulgarian nurses, who spent 8 years in a Libyan prison on charges of infecting a Libyan child with AIDS, welcomed the reports that the infection was carried out by the Libyan special services and may request compensation for the suffering and the experience.
The French investigative website Mediapart published documents yesterday that revealed that Libyan children were injected with infected blood by Libyan intelligence and security commanders. The evidence was found in the diary of Shukri Ghanem, who was prime minister under Gaddafi from 2003 to 2006. The diary, which eventually ended up in the hands of French magistrates, shows that the infection was an act of hostility towards the city of Benghazi, the Libyan bastion of resistance against dictator Gaddafi.
“This news gave me wings,” Valya Chervenyashka, one of the sisters, told AFP. She also recalled the role of Cecilia Sarkozy in their release. Cecilia Sarkozy was the former wife of then President Nicolas Sarkozy.
The other sisters said they could seek compensation for the experience.
“It’s unthinkable, it’s like a horror movie. We were seeing a monster, because of which we spent 8 and a half years in prison,” said Valentina Siropulo.
The guilt of Libyan officials has been proven. The Libyan state has assets abroad and we can be compensated,” says Kristina Valcheva. /AFP
