The position is “we should not stop them, but not before they do their job”
Between June 6th and 8th, representatives of Bulgarian science will be at the European Parliament in Strasbourg to present and defend Bulgaria’s position on the start of negotiations between Skopje and the EU. The news was confirmed to “24 Chasa” by the archaeologist Prof. Nikolay Ovcharov, who went with the historian Prof. Plamen Pavlov and the philologist Prof. Ana Kocheva to the MEPs. Their ambition is for an in-depth conversation about the European perspective of the Republic of Northern Macedonia and the conditions behind which Bulgaria stands firmly in order to be realized.
“In this respect, we are quite late, but better late than never. That is why I hope that the position of Bulgarian science will be heard. I am from the National Archaeological Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and I have a carte blanche from the chairman, Acad. Julian Rewalski, to present the position of the academy “, explained Prof. Ovcharov.
“We will talk about how we see the situation with the future accession of Northern Macedonia. We are of the opinion that we should not stop them, but not before they have done their job. We gave in as much as we could. If we leave unresolved historical disputes, at some point we must lose our own history, the history of our language and our own existence “, commented Prof. Ana Kocheva from the Institute of Bulgarian Language of BAS.
In the autumn, the philologist was invited to give lectures in Poland, where she has a strong Macedonian studies. There I will teach the poor students one thing, and my Macedonian colleague – most likely another and they will become diverse, said Prof. Kocheva.
