Sunny Beach is also this year the undisputed favorite of Brits looking for a budget seaside holiday. The new ranking of Post Office Travel Money for the cheapest destinations for a family summer vacation in Europe ranks the Bulgarian resort in first place. Last year, the Turkish resort of Marmaris overtook our Sunny Beach, but now it is retreating after a significant increase in prices in our southern neighbor.
“The cost of living is constantly rising and sticking to a travel budget is more important than ever,” the Post Office said, noting that 2/3 of British families spend their summer holidays abroad, reports Sega.
The study, which is in partnership with travel company TUI, compared the prices of 10 essential goods and services related to food and drink, as well as sunscreen and insect repellent, in 16 European resorts popular with Britons. Sunny Beach is the only Bulgarian resort in the survey. Greece is represented with 4 destinations, Spain, Portugal and Italy – also with several. Cyprus, Croatia, Malta and Turkey are also included with one beach resort each. The study also shows in which of the listed destinations there is an increase in prices compared to last year.
For Sunny Beach, the accounts show that the average daily expenditure of a family with children is about 110 pounds for lunch and dinner in a restaurant, as well as for buying coffee, a bottle of beer, a glass of wine and soft drinks in a restaurant, mineral water from the store. Added to these costs are sunscreen and insect repellent.
Compared to last year, this daily expenditure has increased by 10%.
The Turkish resort of Marmaris is in second place after Sunny Beach. Last year, Marmaris came out first for the cheapest vacation, but this year a 17% increase in prices is reported. Food in a restaurant may be a little cheaper there than in Sunny Beach, but wine and beer are quite a bit more expensive, as is sunscreen. Because of this and the daily expenditure in Marmaris, a family comes out to 116 pounds.
