Our people went to paradise on the island of Bali and created great trouble

Two Bulgarian citizens have been arrested for “skimming” ATMs on the island of Bali, after a specialized joint operation of the cybercrime unit of the local police and the state credit institution “Bank Negara Indonesia”, reports bg-voice.com.

The arrest took place in early May, and the Bulgarians were arrested after prolonged surveillance, according to the local website danhbacongty.org. The media does not provide more information about the names or official reasons for the stay of our compatriots there.

The credit institution found that one of its ATMs had been targeted by “skimmers” and immediately reported it to local police.

Bulgarian Krassimir Stoykov was detained on the island on similar charges

“The perpetrators were immediately arrested and taken to the police for further investigation,” the bank’s corporate secretary Kiryanto said in an official statement the day after his arrest.

The credit institution BNI has been working with the cybercrime police unit since last year to prevent skimming schemes.

According to her experts, “skimmers” can steal information from ATMs, but also by using special remote technologies to capture data remotely. The lender has launched an urgent procedure to protect its clients who have already fallen victim to financial crimes.

It will compensate for losses within 30 days if abuse is found. The security principle also includes an early warning system that monitors customers’ debit card transactions.

Bali is among the appetizing “skimming” destinations for Bulgarians. In recent years, local authorities have repeatedly reportedly detained organized criminal groups with people of Bulgarian descent who tried to steal data and subsequently financial resources. However, the Bulgarians are not alone in this endeavor, as other criminal groups from the region of Eastern Europe are gravitating in the region.
