MANTUA. The right to health committee of Mantua mobilized again yesterday afternoon (May 29) in Piazza Sordello, in defense of the public health service and for the stop to private health care, very present in Lombardy, “and in Mantua for about half of the sector”. Many social associations and parties intervened, and many speakers and speakers – in front of an audience of about a hundred people with banners and placards. One for all: “Health is not a commodity”. Targets of writings and slogans, regional law 23 of 2015 (Maroni law) and patents on vaccines. Law 23 is guilty among other things – according to the committee – of having unpacked the old Asl, favoring hospitals and destroying local medicine in the area with the possibility of home care, with doctors and other dedicated health personnel. Then the patents, “responsible for allowing the fate of the inhabitants of the planet to be in the hands of the boards of directors of a few and powerful multinational pharmaceutical companies which, however, have been able to produce the vaccines thanks above all to public funds”.
Just as private profits should decrease, while at the same time allowing as many people as possible to be saved globally, in the same way, in the local field, public health has had to bear the full weight of the Covid pandemic, “while health private company has provided, by being paid, only the services it thought it could offer ».
Angelo Barbato, president of the national forum Right to health, summarized the situation for the future: abolish law 23 and replace it with a new one that hinges on the “analysis of citizens’ health needs and, through these, establish health goals and not budget “. In addition to the municipalities being able to intervene on the territorial socio-health plans, a requirement that the mayor of Bozzolo Giuseppe Torchio also spoke about. The regional councilor Andrea Fiasconaro said that on Tuesday 1 June in the Region we will begin to discuss the proposed modification of the Lombard health law. Among the other speakers, Vittorio Agnoletto, Italian spokesman for the ICE (European Citizens’ Initiative) intervened by telephone to collect one million signatures to force the European Commission to suspend vaccine patents. Fausto Banzi, from the Right to Health Committee, finally thundered against the outsourcing of health services and widespread regionalism, “which increases inequalities also in the health field”.
