The singer who appeals to fans of both folk pop and Bulgarian pop music, Tanya Boeva, turns 49 today.
Born in Topolovgrad, but raised in Dimitrovgrad, the artist already in the 90s won prizes and became one of the big stars of the “Golden Orpheus” festival in that period. Her first album, released in 1997, consisted of pop songs only. Two years later she confidently entered pop folk, which was experiencing a huge rise at the time.
In the same year, 1999, Tanya Boeva married composer and arranger Mikhail Burgudzhiev, with whom she has a son: Rosen. Later, the family broke up and the singer claimed that she was subjected to terrible harassment by her ex-husband and her father, who is a well-known businessman.
Boeva recently announced her return to the stage after a 5-year hiatus, in which she literally hid from her son’s father. The singer did not spare her criticism of the authorities. According to her, in Bulgaria a person must be beaten or killed to activate the state machine and obtain justice and protection of wrongs.
Tanya Boeva is said to have been the first Bulgarian folk pop singer to receive a financial award for special merit and contribution to the arts from the Ministry of Culture last year. In an interview with bTV, she denied this information. “Nobody called me from the ministry, I heard about this award from the media. If there is an award, I’m waiting for it,” Boeva said.
