Our famous general brutally scalded the cabinet because of Ukraine

“The question is not what we will send to Ukraine, it is a matter of solidarity with the victim of an unprovoked aggression. Because if no one sends military aid, it will not be able to cope and defend its territory and national independence.

This is more a moral issue for Bulgaria than a material one. Sending military aid to Ukraine is a symbolic moral gesture of solidarity with an aggressor.

This was commented to the Bulgarian National Radio by Reservist General Atanas Zapryanov, former Deputy Minister of Defense, former military representative of Bulgaria in NATO.

According to him “the criticism that Bulgaria is exporting weapons to Ukraine is true“and stressed that it is it is better to do it officiallythan to use intermediaries:

“According to the international rules on arms trade, Bulgaria exports weapons to its counterparties, receiving from them the relevant documents for end users. Bulgaria does not track these weapons after going to these counterparties to see if they are re-exported to Ukraine.”

Atanas Zapryanov pointed out that it is not a question of winning the battle, but of stopping the war:

“It is unlikely that Ukraine will be equipped with weapons to go on a decisive counteroffensive and have a victory parade in Moscow.”

As a military expert, he determined the motives for the Russian invasion of Ukraine as territorialnot emotional or political:

Russia will strive for territorial gains – along with Crimea to take Donbass, to connect them with a land corridor, if it surrenders, the whole Black Sea coast to connect it with their group in Moldova. So this war is not theoretical and philosophical, it is real and practical from the point of view of Russia’s military-strategic goals. “
