Our country has had no achievement! Latvian student wins gold medal at European Youth Informatics Olympiad – Technologies – Apollo.lv – iTech

This is an unprecedented achievement for our country. The Olympics took place in the tense conditions of a pandemic, and both the winner and his teachers were a little surprised by the high score.

This year’s European Youth Informatics Olympiad was scheduled to take place in Georgia, but due to the coronavirus, the large-scale event took place virtually, with each team working in their own country under strict supervision. The Latvian team held the Olympics in the premises of the First Programming School.

“The young people had a computer class, computers pre-prepared, programs that record everything that happens on the computer, plus two extra cameras that recorded everything that happens. , even so seriously, “says Raivis Ieviņš, the leader of the Latvian team.

Already on the first day of the competition, Ansis entered the group of Olympic leaders, however, the 11th place did not guarantee the medal and on the second day she had to get an even higher position. In other years there are days off between the competition days, this time there were no such days. Four hours of solving three difficult tasks using “C ++” or “Java” programming languages.

The gold medalist from Druva Secondary School is still surprised by his success.

“I didn’t expect to do so well. I had hoped for silver, it was much harder on the second day than on the first. Nobody even solved their last task at all! Well, there is always success – to do or not to do it “It ‘s lucky that there were similar necessary ideas in the competition recently. It helped. One task worked while I was solving another,” says Ansis.

He has no doubt about his profession after graduation.

“Logically, that programmer! What else will I do,” says the student.

It should be mentioned that a total of 92 students from 27 countries took part in the Olympics, for the first time in its history a student from Latvia won a gold medal.
