Earworm alert! When someone travels to New York for the first time, this Udo Jürgens song springs to mind: about the guy who goes out for cigarettes in the evening and dreams of simply escaping all constraints. But what the Neuss musician Christian Otte, who is known by his stage name Ötte far beyond the music scene in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, has nothing to do with dreams of escaping everyday life, as in “I’ve never been to New York”. .
–
Rather, the rock musician and his wife are finally fulfilling a long-cherished dream – and combining it with the fulfillment of a second one. “Basically, we’ve always wanted to go to New York, but something always got in the way,” says Ötte. This summer the time has finally come: we’re going to board the plane and cross the Atlantic. And then Ötte will shoot a music video right away. After all, New York City is the city that never sleeps and constantly reinvents itself. That fits the spirit of rock music.

But Ötte doesn’t just want to visit the city and shoot a video. He will also write a travel book. The motto: six days, six chapters, six songs. Every day that he will spend in the Big Apple, he wants to illuminate specifically. The video will then be created for one of these six songs – Ötte will sing in German and in English. The song’s title “No Day Shall Erase You” is borrowed from the phrase “No Day Shall Erase You From The Memory Of Time” found in the 9/11 Memorial Museum, to the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks Remembered in New York in 2001 and actually comes from the Roman poet Virgil. In his six songs, Ötte looks at New York from different perspectives and of course also at the tragic days and dark hours of the city as well as the culture of remembrance.

But of course he also has an eye for the bright. And what makes a city special is always the people. In the run-up to his trip, Ötte contacted New Yorkers via the internet, who will help him on site with the realization of the music video. “For example, it’s about renting a guitar on site or finding suitable locations for the video shoot,” says Ötte.

One of those spots that makes his list is on the 80th floor: an observation deck that’s all white. “It looks really really cool,” says Ötte. And among his contacts, a man from New York even turned out to be the owner of a small book publishing company. That’s when Ötte’s book is supposed to appear. But there is still a lot to do until then, after all, Ötte likes to put a lot of love into the details. The work should be finished in 2023. The songs should then be included as download codes.

First of all, it’s about enjoying the trip to New York. Ötte has already noted a place that not every tourist visits in his sightseeing plans – and for that he has to go over to New Jersey. There is a memorial to Frank Sinatra. “As a Sinatra fan, I simply have to go there,” says Ötte.
