Microsoft and Bethesda may announce a Developer Direct for upcoming sci-fi RPG Starfield. Although these rumors have not been officially confirmed, they come from major figures in the gaming media and sources within the industry.
Bethesda officially announced Starfield at E3 2018, although the developer patented the name in 2013 and had been working on the core concept for some time before that. The game is set in the 2330s and players take on the role of a space explorer from an organization called Constellation. Bethesda plans to release Starfield in the first half of this year, but has yet to give a specific date.
However, if multiple insider sources are to be believed, more news about Starfield may be coming soon. Video Games Chronicle Editor-in-Chief Andy Robinson tweeted, “I heard a Starfield showcase announcement is imminent.” A few minutes later, he responded to his tweet by saying, “Soon.” His comment was subsequently confirmed by YouTuber Rand Al Thor 19 and Windows Central editor Jez Corden on their latest Xbox Two podcast.
Andy Robinson did not provide any further information about the potentially upcoming Microsoft and Bethesda announcement. However, Rand and Corden revealed a bit more, starting at 2:24 p.m. on the last episode of the podcast. The two say they had a private conversation on the subject yesterday when Rand found out about the upcoming Starfield show, which he thinks Microsoft and Bethesda will announce next week. Corden claims to have heard something similar, but they kept it under wraps until Corden got confirmation from his sources.
What’s more, Rand claims that rumors that Bethesda will host a Starfield show in March or April 2023 have been circulating even before The Game Awards. Corden also noted that he, Rand, and Robinson are most likely not getting their information from the same source, which means that many different people are saying the same thing.
Rand and Corden still tried to play it safe and not claim that the rumors are facts. That’s probably reasonable, given Rand’s assertion that Starfield news has been unpredictable and Bethesda’s plans seem highly volatile. However, Rand also claims that there has been a lot of talk about Starfield’s presentation coming soon. He believes that Microsoft and Bethesda can host it next month, and the game will be released in June.
