Other graphics cards are leaving in New World, but the EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 predominates

User complaints describe system crashes at best, graphics card deaths at worse while playing the beta version of Amazon Games’ New World. Amazon has issued a statement that in its opinion the game is OK, but to be sure, it will add the FPS limiter to the menu. The company EVGA, which is most often mentioned in connection with the case, acknowledges the complaint, seeks out the origin of the problem and changes the card to a new one as soon as it turns out.

However, there were also reports of other graphics cards, which either show instability or which will definitely say goodbye to the user for self-cremation. However, these are rather isolated cases, the GeForce RTX 3090 from EVGA is still in heavy predominance. Card instability or death has been reported in at least one case with other manufacturers GeForce RTX 3090, GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, GeForce RTX 3080, Radeon RX 590, Radeon RX 6800, Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6900 XT.

However, the problems with cards other than the EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 seem to be rather isolated. Each graphics card has a few percent claim, so it’s hard to say whether the deaths of other models just do not fall under the common mortality statistics.

However, it is possible that New World simply has a higher GPU load in a certain configuration (from an energy point of view) than most other games, so it is likely that a worse piece of graphics card will go away in this game, but in the case of EVGA’s GeForce RTX 3090 there’s another problem. YouTuber JayzTwoCents came across a possible origin in the video, where he let the game run on this card and watched the basic load indicators. Surprisingly, in the factory setting, the GPU cards had withdrawals that constantly exceeded the (factory) limit. YouTuber mentions that it was 115-120%, but at one point when it is not looking at the screen (12 minutes 25 seconds when zooming) it can be seen that the consumption jumped to 127%. In general, exceeding the limit by 27% for a card with this consumption can mean consumption up to ~ 100 watts above the maximum limit.

This is still not a value that should destroy the card (he also tried to set the limits and the card did not die with it), but it is a non-standard behavior that other cards (compared to the model from MSI) do not show. The card from EVGA also made special sounds (8 minutes 22 seconds) during the start of the game, which may come from the choke. There is a theory that the card fluctuates too much in consumption, to which the circuits do not manage to respond properly. It can be accepted that the game itself has only higher energy requirements, which in combination with a malfunctioning power limit on the EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 in combination with some other weakness causes a higher departure of these cards.
