The proposal presented by Al Nassr to Otávio leaves any player head over heels. Three-year contract, 15 million euros per year for the creative, salary cap for the dragons beaten by a very large margin and FC Porto also profiting from this Arabian deal, pocketing the 40 million euros that appear in the termination clause. An attractive transaction for all, even if in the case of SAD the counterparts are significantly smaller, since the BMG bank holds 32.5 percent of the economic rights of the creative.
The business, however, did not go forward. SAD portista refused the phased payment that the Saudi Arabian club suggested to complete the deal and the possibility of Otávio joining Cristiano Ronaldo in the Arab world immediately went down the drain. But the subject is not forgotten, quite the contrary.
It is true that as of Saturday Otávio’s clause rises to 60 million euros, but that figure is not out of reach for the Saudis, as recently proved with the transfer of Rúben Neves from Wolverhampton to Al Hilal, with the deal involving 55 million euros. So far, this is the highest operation in the Arab world, but the market has not yet reached the sweet spot and certainly these numbers will be beaten. The fact that Al Nassr is prevented from registering players by FIFA only momentarily hinders the Saudi club’s intentions.
Intensely courted, Otávio expressed interest in trying his luck in the Arab world right from the first contacts, obviously for the opportunity to play alongside CR7 in a championship that is emerging with incredible strength, but above all because of the financial impact of the transfer. At the age of 28, the Portuguese international has the contract of his life ahead of him and, in a concrete way, he believes that opportunities like these should not be wasted…
Obviously, Sérgio Conceição has been following all this immense noise around Otávio from a distance. The coach of the dragons gave instructions to SAD to resist as much as possible to all proposals by the creative team, but he recognizes that if the termination clause is beaten – by the way – there is not much to do.
