Argentine footballer Nicolas Otamendi was reportedly attacked in his own home on Monday.
Four perpetrators were to attack him and tie a belt around his neck, then stole money and a luxury watch. According to the team, Benfica’s defender Lisbon is OK.
Nicolás Otamendi, his wife and his son were assaulted in their house in Lisbon after Benfica’s match yesterday.
“The player and his family are fine despite the problems they face after this event,” the club said in an official statement. According to the British media, the former Manchester City player was attacked on arrival from Benfica’s match against Famalicau (4: 1). He was then forced to open the door behind his wife and child. According to the Portuguese media, the theft lasted only ten minutes and the thieves, allegedly from Eastern Europe, were supposed to cause damage worth almost 300,000 euros.
The case is already being dealt with by the Portuguese police, the house of the two-time Premier League winner in the south of the city is guarded by a private bodyguard. A similar incident happened to British cyclist Mark Cavendish last week.
The athlete, who was recovering from a track race in Ghent, Belgium, was attacked and threatened by his wife Peta. They then took his luxury suitcase and two expensive watches. The whole scene took place in the presence of two cyclist minor children.
