An Austrian quintet will go hunting for medals at the Ski Cross World Cup in Idre on Saturday (12.30 p.m., live on ORF Sport +). On Wednesday, Johannes Rohrweck booked their ticket for the final decision of the top 32 in the men’s qualification, Johannes Aujesky (20th), Robert Winkler (21st) and Sandro Siebenhofer (25th). Karin Ofner took third place in the women’s qualification confidently made the jump to the 16-finals.
The Styrian won her first World Cup victory in Val Thorens last December, and Ofner finished fourth and fifth in the World Cup competitions in January in Idre. “We’re all here to win a World Cup medal, but everything has to fit together for that,” said Ofner.
Rohrweck, most recently sixth in the World Cup in Idre, once again emphasized the special features of the World Cup course. “A lot more tactical considerations come into play here than on any other track. In particular, the slipstream is nowhere as important as here. It’s not uncommon for you to turn into the 600 meter long home straight as fourth and then cross the finish line first. It is important never to give up, because there can always be something going on here, right up to the last meter, ”said the Upper Austrian.
