Ostrava majáles wants to be a symbol of all students in the region. For this year, in addition to the election of the king and queen, he also prepared the election of the prince and princess. Alena Matlášková, chief coordinator of student activities, Ostravský Majáles 2024: “The final candidate, for king or queen, everyone who wins will get 50 thousand. It’s a sponsorship from us for the project that they aim to come up with. And by doing so, they continue to support student life. That is, if they decide to improve their dormitories or some new equipment for the school or to invent and organize such an event for the 50,000 for students, that’s up to them.”
Petr Veselka (ANO), mayor of Moravská Ostrava and Přívoz: “I am very happy this year that I have been given the honor to take the patronage of Majáles. And especially the crowning king and queen of both Ostrava universities. But this year is such a treat, such a new thing that the princess and prince of Majáles will also be elected in high schools.”
8 candidates are vying for the prince and princess. The King and Queen are chosen from six university representatives.
Alena Matlášková, chief coordinator of student activities, Ostravský Majáles 2024: “Always in pairs, for the University of Silesia, the University of Mining and the University of Ostrava. And this year we also have high schools. We have a prince and a princess for them. They will be there for the first time this year, and for the reason that last year our class was the first overall, so, of course, a lot of people didn’t know what to expect from it. We tried to have a prince and princess last year, but we didn’t succeed.”
The Ostrava majáles prepared a spectacular program with a number of great musical stars. On Saturday, starting at 10:00 a.m., a parade was also planned from Masaryk Square to the Lower Vítkovice area with allegorical cars of students representing individual universities, in which several major majales stars will play live the whole way.
