DAVOS (VG) It was not until November 8 that it became clear that Ingvild Flugstad Østberg (31) was allowed to go to the World Cup again. A month later, she is very close to an Olympic ticket to China.

– It has gone faster than I thought. I probably thought I needed more skiing, says Østberg to VG.
The 31-year-old was not allowed to ski for a year and a half because she lacked a health certificate. Only on November 8 was it clear that she could compete again.
And with Sunday’s eighth place in the 10-kilometer, her third race of the season, Østberg took a solid step towards the Olympic squad.
– It has been very “from one to the other”. In November, it could end with zero skiing this winter. I was very prepared for that too, so I have to admit that it has been a very big change for me mentally, says Østberg and elaborates on how it was:
“Oh, I’m going to ski anyway.” I was hoping for it all the way of course, but you lose a little faith too. A lot has happened physically and mentally since November.
National team coach Ole Morten Iversen is not surprised that Østberg performed well in the height in Davos (1550 meters). He also thinks the Olympic height in China (around 1800 meters) fits well.
– Ingvild Flugstad Østberg in height, in Beijing and in shape is normally one of our strongest cards. If we manage to get her in good shape, says Iversen.
– How do you think you are doing with that in mind?
– All the way.
– Is she approaching Olympic place?
– Yes, yes, absolutely.
Østberg calls Sunday’s eighth place, only beaten by Therese Johaug and Heidi Weng among the Norwegians, a good Olympic application.
– It strengthens my faith and hope that I can come to the Olympics. If I get any more chances to show myself worthy of the place, I will take them, says Østberg.
– I know I handle height well and can walk different distances outside the sprint.
