Latvia’s first tennis racket Alona Ostapenko on Thursday gave 6-7 (2: 7), 6-7 (4: 7) to Japan’s Nao Hibino, stopping in the quarterfinals of the Strasbourg WTA “International” series tournament, according to the organizers.
Ostapenko, the world’s 43rd racket, and Hibino, ranked 84th, had previously met twice, and Alona celebrated success on both occasions.
It has already been reported that in the first round of the tournament Ostapenko won Loren Davis from the USA 6-2, 6-3, in the second round was superior to the injured Dutchman Kiki Bertens, winning by 2-6, 6-4, 4-2.
It should be noted that Ostapenko in a duet with Canadian Gabriel Dabrovsky reached the Strasbourg tournament semi-final doubles. However, he suffered a loss on Thursday with the result for Hailey Carter and Brazilian Luis Stefani.
In the Strasbourg tournament, with € 225,000 in prize money, the games will take place on clay pavement as tennis players prepare for the French Open, which began with qualifiers in Paris on Monday.
Ostapenka will start the last Grand Slam of the year in Paris by meeting American Madison Brengle in the first round, but Anastasia Sevastova will not take part in the French Open.
