The next game failed to strengthen the gained advantage – the loss of a point when serving. After this game, the politician was given medical help, which adversely affected the course of the match, Ostapenko. The opponent scored three points in a row and later won the set with 6-4 with the third set ball.
In the second set, in the first game, Ostapenko lost by serving, then lost to 0: 2. In the fourth game they managed to equalize the result – 2: 2, but immediately they lost the point again by serving themselves, and in the set they managed to win only in the seventh game, reaching 3: 4.
The two tennis players had not competed with each other before.
The Ostapenko tournament in Rome is the first since the resumption of the season.
She started the year at the Australian Open, where she stopped in the second round, but then lost in the first match of the St. Petersburg tournament and advanced to the third round in Doha. He has currently celebrated three victories in seven games on the WTA tour.
Meanwhile, Linete resumed the season in the USA, where she reached the second round of the Lexington tournament, stopped in the first round of the New York WTA Premier and advanced to the third round of the US Open. In February, the Polish woman won the Huechina International tournament in Thailand, winning the second WTA title in her career.
In the second round, Linete will meet with Eliza Mertens from Belgium (WTA 20) or Suvei Xie from Taiwan (WTA 62).
It has already been reported that Anastasia Sevastova, who lost to Italian Jasmine Paolini with 2-6, 3-6, also suffered a loss in the Rome competition on Monday.
For his performance in Rome, each of the Latvian tennis players earned one point in the WTA rank.
