It has been learned from interviews with people involved that salvage of the main parts of the US military Osprey that crashed off the coast of Yakushima may begin as early as next week.

Off the coast of Yakushima, a search continues for one of the eight crew members missing.

On the afternoon of the 14th, a barge with a crane owned by a private company was seen in the waters southeast of Yakushima Airport, where the wreckage believed to be the main part of the Osprey was found.

According to the Ministry of Defense and related parties, a barge with a crane entered the area on the 14th at the request of the U.S. military and others, and U.S. military and Self-Defense Force vessels and submarines were also seen nearby.

It is expected that work to salvage the main parts of the aircraft will begin in earnest, and according to officials, salvage work could begin as early as next week.
