Osmar Olvera takes bronze in the three-meter springboard

Mexico City. Mexico’s diving hierarchy has found an elite heir in Osmar Olvera. The capital native fulfilled his promise of winning two medals in Paris 2024 by winning the bronze medal in the individual event from the three-meter springboard, thus becoming the second Mexican diver to obtain two medals in the same summer event after Joaquín Capilla.

Olvera had a great performance, staying among the top places from the start and finishing with a score of 500.40. China took the gold with Siyi Xie (543.60) and the silver with Zongyuan Wang (530.20) to continue its quest for a historic sweep in this discipline.

Osmar celebrated his second medal at the Parisian event after having won silver in the synchronized diving event from the three-meter springboard with Juan Celaya.

At just 20 years of age, he also became the fifth tricolor multi-medallist in a single Olympic edition after Humerto Mariles (three golds in equestrian in London 1948), Rubén Uriza (silver and bronze in equestrian London 1948), the diver Joaquín Capilla (gold and silver in Melbourne 1956) and the race walker Raúl González (gold and silver in Los Angeles 1984).

Osmar’s medal is also the 17th in the history of Mexico in the diving competition, the sport that has given the country the most Olympic medals. The achievement is also part of the work of the Chinese-born coach Ma Jin, who has won several medals in the Olympic Games with Mexican divers such as Paola Espinosa.
