Osmar Olvera is definitely the king of the Dives from Mexico.
As if three golds at the 2023 Pan American Games, being world champion in the 1-meter springboard or having won a silver at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka and a bronze in Doha 2024 in the three-meter springboard were not enough proof, the Mexican diver, of only 20 yearscompleted a historic participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Olvera, who had already won the silver medal in synchronized trampoline with Juan Celayaalso won bronze in the singles. No Mexican diver had been on the podium in this event since Sydney 2000, before he was born. No one had won two medals in the same Olympic Games since Joaquin Chapel a Melbourne 1956
In the individual final, held on August 8 at the Aquatic Centerthe Chinese diver WANG ZongyuanOlympic runner-up in this event at the last Games and three-time world champion in this event, took the gold medal, followed by his compatriot XIE Siyitwo-time Olympic champion in Tokyo 2020 (in this event and in synchronized swimming).
